  • Estimates of 73 million members (2007)
  • Contributed to the top echelon leaders of the communist party such as Hu Yaobang and Hu Jintao

Mao's maintanence of power:
  • Helped build his propaganda of a real revolution
  • Influenced the youth to believe in communist ideals
  • Inserted fear into the people against the young (red guards)
