Communist Youth Associations:
  • A Youth movement between the ages of fourteen and twenty-eight by the CCP
  • Founded in May 1920 (originally named as the Socialist Youth League of China)
  • During the Cultural Revolution the organization was blocked
  • Estimates of 73 million members (2007)
  • Contributed to the top echelon leaders of the communist party such as Hu Yaobang and Hu Jintao

Mao's maintanence of power:
  • Helped build his propaganda of a real revolution
  • Influenced the youth to believe in communist ideals
  • Inserted fear into the people against the young (red guards)
