DETAILS ABOUT THE EVENT:
  • Johann Georg Elser was German citizen who was against Nazism.
  • 1938, november 8th-- Elser attended the anniversary of the failed Beer Hall Putsch
    • same night witnessed the anti-Jewish violence
      • therefore decided that if Hitler was able to cause so much violence within the nation, is also capable of drawing Germany into a major war
        • decided Hitler's death is the only to stop this from happening
    • saw that there was a lack of security, therefore decided it'd be a good place for the assassination to take place
    • planned to bomb the room Hitler will be in during the next anniversary for the Beer Hall Putsch
    • for the next few months Elser managed to stay after closing hours and thus placed the bomb behind the speaker's rostrum
    • however, WWII broke out 1939, september 1st and Hitler cancelled his speech for the anniversary, however Elser was unaware of this at the time
    • then, Hitler changed his mind and decided to attend the anniversary and also return to Berlin the same night after the speech
    • Hitler originally planned to fly by plane to Berlin, however the fog was too thick that night, therefore Hitler left the anniversary earlier than planned and took the train instead

EFFECTIVENESS:
Not very effective in resisting against Hitler. Elser's plan failed because Hitler ended his speech earlier in order to take the train back to Berlin. The bomb exploded at the exact time elder planned for it to, however Hitler had already left the anniversary thirteen minutes earlier.
