Group of Five

1) provide details about the event with SHK; 2) explain how this helped Mao consolidate or maintain his power (think the legs of the stools!)

• Group of Five:
  • set of moderate party officials led by Peng Zhen (1902-97), the mayor of Beijing -- Lynch, The People's Republic of China 1949-76
• peacemakers to prevent party splits from widening

The Group of Five were presented as being very loyal to Mao, however in april 1966 were accused of going down the capitalist road.
