DETAILS ABOUT THE EVENT:
*KPD: communist Party of Germany
  • underground cells were placed mostly in: Berlin, Mannheim, Hamburg, and central Germany
  • most members were paid party activists--> used false names/ papers
  • main aim: to always remain a step ahead of the Gestapo
  • most activists were caught by the Gestapo only six months later
  • eventually the number of activists in the KPD lessened
    • therefore KPD decided to rethink their strategies
  • 1939 (january) cerated a 'popular front' consisting of anti-facists from in and outside of Germany

EFFECTIVENESS:
  • 1939 (august) policy suffered because of the signed 'non-aggression pact' between Germany and the Soviets
  • therefore, KPD could only continue to warn the people the consequences Nazi's aggression could lead to
