Role of Media:
Constantly controlled throughout the years (especially in the Cultural Revolution)
Gang of Four used the media to "to impose a set of restrictions known as the "five nos": no wearing black armbands, no mourning wreaths, no mourning halls, no memorial activities, and no handing out photos of Zhou" as well as using it to blame Deng Xiao Ping for the Tiannamen Square incident.
Significance: it led to public discontent during the 5 nos as well as the decrease of popularity thus leading to the quick descent in power after Mao's death (and the support for Deng Xiao Ping since he was Zhou's ally in a way)
